Lord of the Rings - and dogs

IN TLOTR there are creatures, called Ents, that are trees with human characteristics, once of which is speech. Yesterday, while hiking, it was easy to see where Tolkien got his inspiration. Late in the afternoon the wind began gusting up to about 35 MPH and the creaks and groans and gratings of the trees sounded like loud moans and cries. With all the snow and tree damage lately it would be easy for trees or limbs to fall (see that a man was killed in Central Park by a falling limb)

I had Guy on leash as we were on a paved area and every time a big gust of wind came he perked up his ears, pulled the leash from side to side, and looked up at the trees as if he could understand them. He also was pulling very hard to get the hell out of there. Maybe dogs are smarter than humans because the can understand what trees are saying. Maybe that's why they pee on them.
